Arts Theatre Newsletter
August 2006
3rd August 2006
Hello Mother, hello Father,
Here I am at, Camp Khandallah.
Camp is very, entertaining,
And they say we'll have some fun if it stops raining!
Well Mother, it’s been a very busy last few months here at Camp Khandallah Arts Theatre (KAT). The July club night was a great success. I must congratulate all the directors and their superb casts for a very stimulating evening of theatre.
Peter Clemerson commented that a common theme to all the plays seemed to be human misery, but the only thing miserable was the weather outside as we all had an enjoyable time inside.
Margaret Walls led some excellent discussion about the plays and Glenys Lloyd laid on a spiffing spread for supper.
Margaret Robertson did an amazing job of coordinating the whole occasion, two thumbs up.
There are some very interesting things coming up too. KAT Club night on Tuesday August the 15th will be a great opportunity to meet everyone again. And as a special treat, they are planning to ignite the heaters! We will be discussing planning for next year, new directors/actors, some ideas for plays and other productions and perhaps some tea and crumpets! All those in favour of tea and crumpets, say ‘aye’? “AYE!”
It’s getting very exciting too as the preparations continue for the next big KAT production,
Dancing at Lughnasa by Brian Friel. A lovely Irish tale of love and life. It opens this year on Oct 5. Can we go? Oh please tell me we can go! In fact Mother and Father, you can help if you want. There are plenty of roles like backstage, lighting, production assistant and more. You can call
Margaret Walls on 4793654 or the Director Paul Langham on 2327206. My favourite set designer,
Warwick Janes, who designed the set for 12 Angry Men, has come up with another splendid set. Oh I know it will be fantastic!
Mr Ross Foubister is planning a trip to Stagecraft on September 13 to see
The boys next door, by Tom Griffin. I know you like the boy next door, mother, so give Ross a call on 9705813 and get along to see it.
My friend Susan Vella went to a director’s workshop along with Lynn
Coory, sponsored by KAT. The course was tutored by well known Wellington thespian and director extraordinaire,
Ewen Coleman. They said he was very thorough and gave out excellent notes in a very productive evening.
And ah, Father, its KAT subscription time again, so could you, um, help me out again maybe?
Some of my friends here at KAT have been getting up to all kinds of fascinating activities.
Tanya Piejus is appearing in the Stagecraft show The boys next door; Lisa
Holmes, a year 13 Student from Queen Margaret College is one of four finalists in a national Shakespearean costume design competition;
Dom Gibbs, has got himself mixed up in some type of interweb sports radio show, known as a podcast, he is a ninny.
But my heartiest congratulations and thanks must go to Margaret Robertson, who this year celebrates
40 years, that’s right Mother and Father, 40 YEARS coming along to Camp KAT. She has come up through the ranks and has played virtually every part in the KAT handbook. Well done Margaret on your Ruby anniversary with KAT.
So in conclusion, it stopped raining!
There’s no reason, for complaining
KAT’s performing, a show that’s better!
Mother, Father, kindly act upon this letter!
Your loving son Maximillion Power
(Ghost written this month by Dom Gibbs)
