KAT CHAT Khandallah Arts Theatre Newsletter June 2005 Club Night, Cochran Hall Tuesday 21 June 7.30pm
Scenes from Shakespeare
Margaret
Walls is organising a lively selection of scenes, monologues and duologues.
Characters in crisis – Hamlet, Ophelia and Juliet will be contrasted with
others in lighter mood – Juliet’s nurse and Sir John Falstaff. A highlight
will be the appearance of a team from Under
Milk Wood by Dylan Thomas April 28 – May 7 Congratulations
to Ewen Coleman and his team for a very successful production. This was Ewen’s
62nd production and he was full of praise for everyone that his
challenging vision of traverse staging was met with such energy and enthusiasm.
Average attendance over the season was 88 which meant Front of House were kept
very busy and the Treasurer was kept happy! The
production was entered in the Wellington District Theatre Federation’s Full
Length Play Competition and adjudicator Nerissa Moore said in her report ‘The
director’s overall vision and strong ensemble playing were notable features of
this intelligent, pleasing production… (There was) strong structuring of the
individual beats with all the actors playing their several roles convincingly
and with relish for the language given them.” Pub Quiz May 17 Thank you to Lynn Coory for taking over organisation of this fundraiser. 62 people attended and had fun battling it out for honours which went once again to Michelle Parish’s team! Thank you too to Jillian Carpenter for gathering raffle prizes and we here acknowledge the generous support of The Museum Hotel (a night for two), Khandallah New World, Khandallah Pharmacy, Khandallah Quality Meats, Reuters NZ and Ross Foubister, Shadze Hair Design Taylors Drycleaning and the Postie’s Whistle and Tony Mildenhall. Do support our sponsors. Next Major Production opening
October 6 Ian
Munro will be directing for us. He started in theatre at 17 with the Group
Theatre in What’s On at Other Clubs
Did
you get to see Les Miserables at PLT? If you did you must have booked well in
advance. Ditto Dad’s Army at Tawa
This production is also booked out before opening night! We had huge numbers
attend Under Milk Wood – 106 one
night. This trend really is most encouraging. Just shows though, that we all
have to plan ahead if there’s something we want to see. 2009 This
will be a special year in KAT’s history as we shall be 50. Plans have
already been made for the celebrations and contributions towards a booklet of
reminiscences have started to come in. Have you got something you would like to
record for posterity? It could be the tale of a funny incident, a dramatic
moment, a heart warming gesture onstage or backstage during rehearsal,
production or club night. Put your thinking caps on and send your piece (up to
200 words) to Margaret Robertson mrps@ihug.co.nz
