KAT CHAT Khandallah Arts Theatre Newsletter March 2005Club Night, Cochran Hall Tuesday 15 March A Thespian Quiz Have fun pitting your wits against a demon quiz mistress! Last year we won the Thespian Quiz Shield and now we’re going into battle to retain it against New Players and Tawa Community Theatre teams. Would you like to be part of our team of four? Margaret Robertson is organising the evening, so give her a ring on 479 2436. Come and barrack for our team and see whether you actually know more than they do! A special supper will be served. Supper duty Michelle Parish, Alice Pearce, Beth Pethig. Do come and support KAT. The Gingerbread Girl by Sarah Delahunty February 10 - 19 Congratulations to Susan Vella and her team on a very successful production. It was Susan’s idea to organise a wind/wet weather venue, to perform twice a day during the weekends and to engage a musical director and all these innovations enhanced our contribution to the Summer City programme. The wet weather venue is a special boon to those who have to set out early; did you know there are actually people who come across from Masterton every year to see our ‘play in the park’! Others came twice and after every performance children were delighted to be able to talk and be photographed with the actors, handle the props and explore the oven. AGM 15 February The Annual General Meeting went well and we were very pleased that Glenys accepted the presidency for another year. Margaret Walls remains as Artistic Director and Barry was re-elected Treasurer. The committee comprises Jillian Carpenter, Lynn Coory, Ross Foubister, Paul Langham, Marj Lawson, Margaret Robertson, Hilary Rutherford & Susan Vella. We are delighted to welcome Lynn and Paul as new members on the committee. After the meeting, Jillian Carpenter gave us pointers on how to play Charades correctly and then we all enjoyed acting out her choice of topics for each other. Subs are now due. Please pay promptly on invoice enclosed Under Milk Wood by Dylan Thomas April 28, 29, 30, May 1; 5, 6, 7. Successful auditions have been held. Over a dozen people vocalised and moved to vocal coach Jillian Carpenter’s direction, warming up under the watchful eye of Director Ewen Coleman. An ensemble cast of 10 men and 8 women has been chosen: Steven Badcock, Stephen Bell, Kevin Brown, Lynn Coory, Craig Dryden, Dominik Gibbs, Keith Hambleton, Ashley Jeffrey, Paul Langham, Glenys Lloyd, Nikki Lloyd, Abie Margetts, Chelsee Neverman, Tanya Piejus, Damian Reid, Margaret Robertson, Hayden Rogers and Victoria Stevens. Rehearsals are under way and the production meeting is at 3pm, 6 March. Ewen’s concept for the set is most innovative: part of the body of the hall will be enclosed in blacks with the audience sitting on rostra either side of a street-like acting space. There will be a raised platform at the end under the lighting box, backed by a painting of Milk Wood looking down on the village Llaregyb. Contact Production Assistant, Hilary Rutherford ph 479 9409 if you would like to be part of this exciting production back stage; we need your help. Thanks Laura Tuckwell and Lisa Duggan responded to the call to take some KAT boxes under their wing. Thankyou very much to them and their families for making space for box storage. May it not be another 10 years before we need them again. Members’ News Congratulations to Jenny and Nigel Fenwick on the birth of Stephanie Elizabeth. Congratulations too to Jackie and Ray Vaughan on the celebration of their Golden Wedding recently.
