Wine and Cheese, Annual General Meeting & Play Reading

Come and sit café style, enjoy a complimentary glass of wine and participate in the AGM before hanging loose for the very first reading of children’s play Princess Kate and the Dragon written by own member Lisa Duggan. In the true spirit of children’s theatre you will be encouraged to cheer on the heroes and warn them when dangers threaten. It’s very exciting to have another playwright in our midst.

The Three Little Pigs by Carl Nixon
This year’s Play in the Park was a tremendous success. Lots of families came several times they loved it so much. One little boy who had been twice offered Ross help setting up and adults said it was the funniest thing they had seen in years. The weather was splendid throughout the season and 2,610 people came. This is the third highest total we have had over the 7 years; Jack and the Silver Scooter attracted 2,695 attendees and The Dragon Who Burnt Her Boats 2,683, both plays by Mary Collie-Holmes. Opening at 2pm on Waitangi Day proved a most popular decision as 450 came.

A very big thank you to Director Susan Vella, her talented, energetic cast and to all the KAT members who worked so hard backstage. We had a winner!

Pack of Lies by Hugh Whitemore
Most unfortunately our April production has had to be cancelled; just three men were needed but circumstances conspired against their casting. Thank you to Director Bob Cater and the women who were keen to participate.

All Bob’s good work however is not lost as he has agreed to direct the play as a reading for a Club night on Tuesday 17th April

June 19 One Act Play Readings
Interest is gaining momentum in this club night and maybe subsequent performance in the Festival of Community Theatre (2 – 4 August in the Cochran Hall). Potential directors please indicate your interest and if possible send firm proposals to Margaret W. Artistic Director. Are there really five of you wanting to direct a play?

KAT Jubilee 2009
The time has come to start making preparations to celebrate 50 years of theatre in Khandallah. Would you like to be on a sub-committee to co-ordinate ideas? If you have any suggestions or can offer assistance please contact Margaret R Ph 479 2436 or mrps@ihug.co.nz

Directors’ Workshop with Ewen Coleman
14/15 April Newtown Community Centre
Last year Susan Vella and Lynn Coory attended Ewen’s directing workshop at Mana Little Theatre and found it most worthwhile. This workshop is the same, covering choosing a script, script analysis, auditions and casting, the rehearsal process, blocking and movement. Recommended for those starting out or as a refresher.

Register with Sue Miller kotuku.media@xtra.co.nz or phone 233 1842
The club is willing to sponsor members the $30 fee. Ring Barry, the Treasurer.

WCC Grant Received
We are grateful for a WCC grant that will cover half the cost of a new ladder to be used on the stage to erect lights. No longer will technicians place themselves in danger by standing on top of a too short ladder!
