Arts Theatre Newsletter
September 2006
What a great newsletter by Dom Gibbs last month which has had a lot of good feedback, oh if only we were all so creative.
AUGUST CLUB NIGHT
A successful planning evening was spent discussing what plays and events should be held in 2007. There were a number of good suggestions and Margaret Walls is putting all the ideas together.
THE BOYS NEXT DOOR by Tom Griffin, directed by Iona Anderson
For September instead of having something in our own hall we are planning to go to Stagecraft on Wednesday 13 September to see The Boys Next Door. Ross Foubister is organising the booking so if you want to go ring Ross on 970 5813 or email him on ross.foubister@paradise.net.nz it will be a great evening, the cast includes Tania Piejus.
DANCING AT LUGHNASA rehersals are going well and Paul is
pleased with the way the accents are coming on. The cast is Shelly Reet, Catherine McAuliffe, Margaret Cain, Pauline Humphreys, Celine Carlisle, Keith Hambleton,
Vincent Wong and Marcus Lawson . We need help for the publicity boards, so if you can help ring Margaret Robertson on 479 2436. Paul is still looking for a lighting operator so if you can help give Paul a ring on 232 7206.
FULL LENGTH PLAY ANTOINETTE AWARDS 30 SEPTEMBER
The Antoinette awards are being held on Saturday 30 September starting at 7.30pm at the Pavilion, Sunset Parade in Plimmerton. Entry is $10. If you want to come along and support our entry of 12 Angry Men contact either Novena, on 977 5741, or Margaret Walls, on 479 3654. The Antoinette’s are a great night out.
NOVEMBER CLUB NIGHT
The Club night to be held on Tuesday 21 November will have an Australian theme so if you would like to be involved in a play reading, or have any other suggestions contact Margaret Walls, on 479 3654.
MEMBERS NEWS
The Club has some new younger members:
Congratulations to Lisa & Michael Duggan on the birth of their son Leo William and also congratulations to Miko Olliver-Gray and Tane on the birth of their daughter Keilani on 27 August.
DOMINION POST NO LONGER REVIEWING AMATEUR THEATRE
Ewen Coleman has advised that from September the Dominion Post will no longer be publishing reviews of non-professional theatre productions, they will only publish reviews of plays by professional theatre companies or groups. They say that space is limited and they also have to reduce their budget for contributors, but they will still publish preview features and other articles in their Arts and Entertainment section each Friday. They state that all major productions will continue to be reviewed, however, amateur productions of minor interest to the wider readership will no longer be carried. This is interesting as the Dominion Post were proud to announce that readership has increased by 18,000, up 7.6% to 255,000 which is the largest increase of any paper in NZ in the 12 months to June.
If you would like to express you concern about this either write to The Editor, Dominion Post, Box 1297, Wellington, email to
letters@dompost.co.nz or fax to 474 0350.
That is all for this month
